April Week 2 Part A

April 8 - Jelly Beans

Today we started a few new things. To start off we are now working on cooperation as they put together a new floor puzzle each day. Today's choice was a fairy tale castle. This week I got a great deal on a very large bag of jelly beans, so ... I am taking advantage of  of my good fortune and we will have some fun with jelly beans. We started our morning learning

the Jelly Bean Song.  I added the clip art to help the students learn the song faster. The students were caught singing it throughout the day. It is a super easy and catchy tune. Even I am still singing it in my head.

We are continuing to work on our Snail Pace Race Graph. We played two more rounds today. We are trying to learn about how some experiments take more than one day to complete.

We continue to work on estimation. I put jelly beans in two different sizes of plastic Easter eggs and in one Kinderegg egg. The students first estimated how many jelly beans that might be inside. They wrote their estimation and then we opened the egg and counted the actual jelly beans and recorded our answers.

The last part of the worksheet was to determine if their estimation was close or not close to the actual number of jelly beans.

For snack we had one of the students' favorites, celery sticks with peanut butter. We added rainbow fish, Fruit Loops, yogurt, and milk.

For outdoor play we worked on throwing a frisbee. I set out the soccer goals to be a target for them but I soon realized that they didn't even know how to throw a frisbee let alone to aim it at a target.

We practiced for a little bit then the students were given time for free play. They chose to use the goals as a cage for their pretend animals. The girls pretended to be animals and the boy was given the assignment to be the zoo keeper. He set up cones to keep the people at a safe distance from the "wild animals."

We did a fun little race. The students loaded a spoon with one jelly bean and carried it as fast as they could across the room to dump it into their cup. Then race back to get another jelly bean.

They struggled to keep the giggles under control so that they could run.

Reloading for another run.

It took quite a few runs to fill up their cup.

Homework was just doing a Book Buddy Bag.
