May 22 - Zookeepers & Zoo Map
Upon arrival the students chose the dinosaur floor puzzle to put together as a group. This was the first time that they chose to put a floor puzzle together without any encouragement from me.
To work on our one-to-one correspondence and color identification we did a M & M activity. The students were given a Brown Bear activity. The best part of the activity was eating the M & Ms.
For snack we made Ants on a Bus snack. The snack consisted of a banana, 4 vanilla wafers, 2 pretzel sticks, strawberry yogurt, craisins, and 4 jelly beans. Before school I chiseled out a hole in the center of the vanilla wafers. The students used the pretzel as an axle, the vanilla wafers as the tires, and the jelly beans as the hub caps. Using a plastic knife the students took two small wedges out of banana to accommodate the axle. Next the students squirted strawberry yogurt down the length of the banana to hold the "ants" (craisins) on top.
Outside the students used all the cones to set up an obsticale course. Then they discussed the layout of the course and what they needed to do to complete the course.
Back inside they continued the round robin activities that they started on Tuesday. This is the animal patterning station.
Another station was writing / copying letters with a dry erase marker.
At this station we worked on Animal Sudoku to encourage their reasoning skills.
Another station was animal lacing cards.
